The goal of the Chair of Data Science is to extract knowledge from data in order to make it useful for medicine, the environment and society. To this end, we represent the field of Data Science in research and teaching. We are looking for a new member to strengthen and complement our chair, especially for tasks in teaching and in the context of the project "Uncertainty Quantification", which is funded by the Helmholtz Association.
Your Tasks
- research in the areas of stochastic modeling and statistical inference, in particular stochastic processes, uncertainty quantification and machine learning; scientific analysis and development of research software; collaboration in third-party funded research projects of the chair, as well as data analysis with applications in medicine (60 %)
- teaching (depending on the final assignment of tasks to the extent of up to 4 LVS) in the field of statistics and data science, including assistance with examinations and supervision of seminar papers and theses (25 %)
- project management, organization of events and workshops (possibly in cooperation with other institutions involved in the project) as well as collaboration in academic self-administration (15 %)

Your Profile
We expect
- completed university studies (Master's degree or equivalent) in the field of statistics, data science, mathematics or related subjects
- doctorate or advanced doctoral project (expected completion of the doctorate within 6 months) in statistics, data science, mathematics or related subjects
- very good knowledge and research experience in the field of statistics or stochastic modeling with relevant publications, including at least a good knowledge of statistics
- good knowledge in the development of research software (especially in the programming language R)
- experience in teaching statistics
- very good command of written and spoken English
- interest in interdisciplinary cooperation, especially in the field of medicine/natural sciences
- independent working style and organizational skills
- ability to work in a team
Preferred experience and skills
- experience in interdisciplinary cooperation
- experience in presenting research results at scientific meetings
- experience in the scientific guidance of students and doctoral candidates
- experience in project management or organization of scientific events
- experience in publishing research software
- good knowledge of German
- international experience in higher education
