Our IOCB-research group in the Faculty of Chemistry at Bielefeld University, consisting of a team of 15 to 20 staff members, focuses with research topics on industrial organic chemistry and biotechnology, working on these within the framework of various national and international publicly funded third-party projects.
The development of novel catalytic routes to aromatic basic chemicals starting from bio-based raw materials is the focus of a current publicly funded and international third-party funded project in cooperation with a Japanese university. To this end, both, biocatalytic and chemocatalytic technologies are to be included in the research and a profound understanding of the respective reaction processes is to be acquired as a basis for subsequent process optimisation through experimental and theoretical studies. Prioritised synthesis routes will then be specifically optimised and the resulting industrial processes will open up prospects for large-scale use.
