The Faculty of Biology, Department of Chemical Ecology, has the following job opening:
The Department of Chemical Ecology investigates the role of natural products that are involved in communication between individuals of the same or different species and that influence their ecological interactions. These natural products are involved in interactions between plants, herbivorous insects and their antagonists (e. g. predators, parasitoids) as well as in interactions with symbiotic partners such as pollinators and fungi. Within a species, these natural products can differ pronouncedly and interaction partners can respond individually to such variation. In this context, it is of specific interest how factors of global change influence the properties of plants, insects and their interactions. For this purpose, various chemical-analytical methods are used and development, physiology and behaviour in ecological and evolutionary contexts are investigated.
In this PhD position, the influence of global change factors on plant-insect interactions will be investigated.
Research tasks (70 %):
- investigation of the impacts of global change factors on plant-insect interactions using bioassays, chemical analytical methods, statistical analyses
- plant and insect rearing under controlled conditions
- data analysis and preparation of high-quality research publications

- involvement in the departmental teaching obligations (including student supervision)
Other tasks (10 %):
- involvement in organizational tasks of the department
