The interdisciplinary research agenda of AG8 is at the intersection of social epidemiology, health demography and gerontology. It includes four research pillars, which aim to quantify how demographic and social characteristics and behaviors impact individuals’ health and survival. Leveraging high-quality Nordic register data and longitudinal survey data, these projects adopt a life-course framework to study how life experiences shape individuals’ health and health behaviors.
The AG8 research agenda includes the following overarching research areas:
- trends and determinants of e-health use
- consequences of long commutes to work for the health of commuters and their family members
- health and health behavioral changes after experiencing a stressful life event
- trajectories of health at older ages (with focus on single major chronic conditions and
- multimorbidity)
The successful applicant should contribute to one or more of the research themes of the AG8 research.
Research activities (70 %):
- design and conduct quantitative research based mostly on longitudinal register-based data and health survey data
- publish results in international peer-reviewed journals
- collaborate on research tasks with multidisciplinary and international research teams
- participation in national and international scientific conferences and workshops
- contribution to the third-party funding acquisition (primarily methods section)
Teaching activities (25 %):
- contribute to teaching activities carried out by AG8 (e. g., Methods of demographic analysis – Global Aspects, Survey Research Methods)
Administrative work (5 %):
- contribute to other activities at the School of Public Health (e. g. administrative tasks, participation in appointment committees, organization of a workshop)
Employment is conducive to scientific qualification.

- befristet (mit Verlängerungsoption) for 2 years (the extension is subject to additional funds); (§ 2 (1) of the WissZeitVG; in accordance with the provisions of the WissZeitVG and the Agreement on Satisfactory Conditions of Employment, the length of contract may differ in individual cases)
