The position is based in the Theoretical Physics Group at Bielefeld University. The successful candidate will conduct research under the supervision of Dr. Isabel Oldengott as part of the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Prize. The project focuses on particle cosmology, specifically the investigation of the influence of non-standard properties of neutrinos on the cosmological evolution. Scientific collaboration with the research groups Schwarz, Uhlemann, and Bödeker, as well as the potential affiliation with the Collaborative Research Center (CRC) TR 211 (Strong-interaction matter under extreme conditions), offers broad training in the field of cosmology. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to further their education through summer schools and conferences. We are seeking a dedicated and motivated researcher who will actively contribute to the scientific progress and management of the group and its activities in collaboration with other members.


Your Tasks
  • perform research on the above-mentioned topics (80 %)
  • publish the results in scientific journals and present at workshop/conferences (10 %)
  • participate in the teaching activities  (8%)
  • participate in the organization of the academic life in the physics department (2 %)

Your Profile
We expect
  • completed relevant university degree (master or equivalent) in Physics
  • knowledge in cosmology, general relativity, particle physics and astronomy
  • programming experience (Python)
  • very good knowledge of English (written and spoken)
  • good communication skills (written and spoken)
  • collaborative and team work abilities
  • independent, self-directed and organized style of work

Preferred experience and skills
  • familiarity with modern statistical methods in cosmology
  • experience with cosmological software packages such as CLASS or CAMB
  • experience with cosmological data analysis
  • knowledge of cosmological linear perturbation theory
